Shoe Mount Kits - The New Photoflex® Lineup

These kits have been a huge success this year, but we wanted to make sure everyone knows what it is these kits actually can do for you. We’ve taken our entire lineup of Shoe Mount Flash kits, given them a little makeover, and made them as easy as possible to compare, visualize and purchase HERE.

For those of you out there who, like me (until only a few days ago), are a little unclear about what the shoe mount flash kit can actually do, I’m gonna attempt to clear things up, because these kits are really a lot cooler than they may sound. At first, I was thinking, “What could shoes have to do with lighting.” I’m only slightly kidding here. Either way, I was way off. Fortunately, I have knowledgeable colleagues who set me straight. Now I’d like to pass on the valuable tidbits I’ve been gathering.

What it is:

The Shoe Mount Flash is the standard removable On-Camera Flash found on SLR and DSLR cameras. Our Mount Adapter (comes with all these kits, or sold separately) allows you to maximize the light output of your flash, by allowing the attachment of some of our popular SoftBoxes.

What it does:

By attaching our mount adapter to your Shoe Mount Flash, you can attach a softbox to diffuse what is usually a harsh light, and most importantly, move it off your camera. Camera flashes usually light the subject directly in line with the camera, creating flat images and unnatural highlights. Moving it off your camera instantly fixes this problem. If you don’t already have one, this option does require a sync cable or radio slave (sold elsewhere), but this option will really open up your lighting options. For well researched information on these kinds of setups, check in with Ed Zawadzki, who put together a nice summary on his blog a while back.

You can also keep the flash moving with you by attaching it, and its SoftBox, to a camera bracket. This method is ideal for photographers who are moving around a lot, like wedding photographers.

The bottom line:

These kits have something for everyone. They are economical, use what you probably already have sitting in your camera bags, and are easy to take with you on location or use while maneuvering in cramped studio spaces.

Make sure you check them out.
